Fun for all!5
My 18 month old loves this set! He isn't able to use the kazoo or harmonica yet, but he loves play the xylophone and shake the tamborine while I play the harmonica. It's fun for the whole family.

When I first opened the package I thought it was a little strange that the xylophone is all wood(I was expecting metal bars. It took a little while to get used to the sound of the wooden bars compared with metal. My only complaint is that some of the paint has chipped off of the green bar after a couple weeks of use. Otherwise a great way to introduce your child to the world of instrumental music!

Very nice.5
We bought this for our daughter's birthday and she loves it! We had a little paint come off of one of the clam-like clap things (very little and it was our fault...I dropped it on a hard floor). Other than that, no problems. It was shipped very well and was received with no defects of any kind.

Fun First Instruments4
Overall, I really like this set. My almost 2-year old son loves playing all of the instruments - he even plays the harmonica. There are two negatives - the harmonica has tiny screws and one fell out on day two probably. And, because the xylophone is wooden, the sound is not great, a little muted. I wish it was metal - although I know then it would not be a Melissa and Doug.

My First Classical Music Book
By Genevieve Helsby

A delightfully colorful introduction to classical music, aimed to fire the imagination of young children aged 5-7 years. Readers are asked to think about the different places in which we might hear music, whether it is in a concert hall, or just on television. They are then introduced to a selection of famous composers including Mozart and Beethoven, and learn about each of the musical instrument families, from woodwind to percussion.

Review
An exuberant and fascinating introduction to instruments, melodies and composers alike - Handel, Brahms, Stravinsky, John Adams are all included - and comes with a CD, the carefully chosen tracks dovetailing nicely with the text. - Judith Woods, The Daily Telegraph 'For younger listeners, My First Classical Music Book by Genevieve Helsby combines a picture book and a 69-minute CD in a venture that gives the project of introducing children to proper music its biggest boost since Peter and the Woolf. Dotted among Jason Chapman's lively illustrations are some facts even grown-ups won't know...and there is even a game attempt to evoke the special quality of minimalist music: 'Listening to it is like staring at a fire, or at the sea; you find yourself stuck there, just watching, listening...'. Helsby does an excellent job of making classical msuic accessible and entertaining, with well-chosen CD tracks that kick off with the theme music from the Harry Potter films (by Carl Davis) and follow up with a rousing greatest-hits selection from Offenbach's Can-Can to Saint-Saens's animals, and just a small sample of the dread minimalism thrown in. A sticker on the cover recommends it for ages five to seven, though it would entertain anyone with a few gaps in their knowledge to plug and a few hours of summer leisure time to while away.' - Karen Robinson, The Sunday Times

Great even for very young children5
This book was an instant hit with my soon to be 3-year old son. He fell in love with the beautiful pictures. The text about the instruments and composers was easy for him to follow. He kept asking me to read the book over and over again and he named the instruments. Surprisingly, he was very interested in the composers. Needless to say, the CD that's included with the book is an instant hit with him. After a couple of days my son asked for a pencil and paper to "write down music" and announced that he was writing "loud organ music, like Bach". We do something related to this book almost every day - listen to the CD, read a page or two, dance, and talk about and pretend-play different instruments. So far so good!

Music for children5
I started using this book as a guide to teaching 2-4 year old children to listen and enjoy music. It is a good basis for lessons and with some creativity has led to excellent lessons. I'm very excited . My hope is that ultimately they will appreciate and enjoy classical music as I do.

Art of Clarinet Playing
By Keith Stein

Keith Stein was already a phenomenal clarinetist when he attended the very first session of the National Music Camp at Interlochen, Michigan. Stein was then accepted into the Chicago Symphony, and became on of its youngest members. He earned a master of music degree at the University of Michigan, and his teaching career began at Michigan State University and Interlochen, where he remained for the next 41 years until he retired. Within this book, the author makes the player aware of all the many faulty habits he/she may have acquired, then offers constructive suggestions for remedying each one.

An excellent introduction for the student of the clarinet5
This book has been an indispensible aid in learning to play the clarinet. Not only does it answer a myriad questions I had as a beginner, but it gives detailed advice on infrequently documented procedures. For example, there are chapters on the mouthpiece, reed, clarinet, embouchure, relaxation, breathing and support, voicing the tone, tonguiing, fingers, tone quality, intonation, high-register playing, technique, resistance, rhythm, legato, and phrasing. I haven't found any other book that covers half of the subjects. Much less with the lucidity and detail of Mr. Stein. I highly recommend this book.

Clarinet fundamentals5
It's easy to play a clarinet poorly. Plenty of people do just that. They learn how to play the clarinet in order to be in their high school bands, and they don't learn it all that well.

That's why there is a need for this book, which teaches the basics really well and explains how to avoid many of the more fundamental errors made by those who are learning to control this marvellous instrument.

Even if you are a young clarinetist, it isn't too early to read this book. And if you want to learn the fundamentals of how to play the clarinet, this is the place to start.

One more suggestion: don't stop with this book. Try some of the clarinet music the author suggests. And I'd also recommend Brymer's book "Clarinet," for some useful but more advanced material on clarinet acoustics.

Best Clarinet book I've ever seen!5
This book is a must for both amateurs and professionals. The book has many solutions to common and uncommon problems, as well as detailed instructions. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK.

Great little gift for little ones5
I bought my son this harmonica at a toy store for a little more money, but it was worth every penny. He's only fourteen months but has already found his musical talent in this simple instrument. The plastic is sturdy and the sound is unmistakably Hohner. He's stepped on it, bitten it, and spit all over it and it seems to be holding up just fine (he's always supervised while playing his harmonica). I would recommend this toy, I mean, instrument to anyone who needs to buy a gift or wants to introduce their kids to music at any age. In fact, I'm buying more to give away.

Considering the price .... very nice5
Quality and sound are similar to other low-end Hohners. A little quieter than most and certainly less expensive. Purchased four. All reeds work well. Loved the colors. Plastic has no taste or smell. Smooth playing action. I wish I had 100 to give away as gifts to friends and family. Perfect first musical instrument or as a stocking stuffer.

Harmonica good cheep and YELLOW as requested.5
Harmonica good cheep and YELLOW as requested. I was worried about the color as they don't have an option for that but I emailled them and they sent the one I wanted. Quickly too. As I can not play the harp I can not opin about the quality but I LIKE it.

Good for a beginner5
This is the first Duduk that I have played and with the price I could not turn it down. It comes with a small bag to keep the body in but nothing for the reed which needs to be protected. It sounds deep and rich and its easy to play. The only problem is the reed does not fit real snug in the body but I was told with sanding it will fit better.

Useless & unplayable1
These "duduks" are completely useless. The reeds are too crudely made. 1 in 5 might work so so, but cannot be kept closed since the essential cap is lacking. A duduk's reed is supposed to be kept capped and with the band loose. This forces the tips of the reed together while imparting an arc to the lips. When you get ready to play you are supposed to tighten the band by pulling it back, and open the cap, then wet the reed a bit until it opens up a little, like 1/32". You cannot do these steps with these reeds. If you (instead) close the reed with the band to store it, it gives it the wrong shape. It simply cannot work. If you have the patience to try to find a clip to close it with, you'll run into other problems. All you can get out of these reeds (at best) is duck calls and platypus wails. You might also blow your carotid artery or your lungs, and the reed will fall out to boot. The positive reviewer is either hallucinating or very very kind. Maybe he got that one in 5 that actually makes sounds. The crude soft wood body is badly tuned. If you have never played another, you might think this is how they are, and that it's your fault for not playing it right. Wrong. Duduks are hard to play, but not THAT hard. The clever premise that the manufacturer likely works on is that you will think it's your lack of ability, and put the $2 deduk aside without bothering with a refund. Oh, did you say you paid $30?

Vendor is quite OK. I too might have set it aside and blamed myself. But my reed was cracked. They responded immediately, were very nice, and sent me a whole replacement unit. But the reed was hideously moldy, and under the mold it looked just as bad as the previous one. I could compare the two bodies, though, and found they were drilled very differently, and neither fit the reed. Yeah, sanding ... sure. A real reed comes with waxed thread on it to adjust the fit and tune the length. In the meantime I got a real one and realized what was going on. What a travesty! They refunded 100% when I asked. Nothing wrong with the vendor.

Go look at what real reeds look like, the body too, and compare. Save your money and get a playable instrument, these are to a duduk as a cereal box whistle is to a real flute.

Whether you are just looking for fun on the run, or a way to work out your next hit song, the KORG DS-10 Synthesizer for Nintendo DS could be your newest best companion. The DS-10 combines the superior interface of the Nintendo DS with the design concept of the famous KORG MS-10 synthesizer to bring you portable music-creation software without rival.

KORG DS-10 Synthesizer brings portable music creation to the Nintendo DS.

Various sound textures are made possible by implementing the two VCO's, three filter types, and more.

Notes that you perform can be recorded in the sequencer, allowing for further editing.
A Professional-Grade Synthesizer in the Palm of Your Hand
The ultra high-quality sound sources for the DS-10 come from KORG, maker of some of the world's finest musical instruments. Korg spared no effort in creating this ultra-portable yet powerful and easy-to-use music software with tons of the latest features-- and all with the unique accessibility of the Nintendo DS touch screen.

The KORG DS-10 Synthesizer gives you the choice of sculpting your own unique sounds with expansive on-screen controls, or starting from a preset template. With two dual oscillator synth parts and four synth/drum parts, users can create synth and drum lines using the on-screen touch keyboard and drum pads, or engage the elegant six-track, 16-step sequencer.

With powerful features such as KORG's KAOSS technology, users can add custom modulations in real-time, tighten the mix with a full-featured mixer, polish their grooves with multiple effects, and create complete songs that they can save on the spot.

The DS-10 features a chorus, flanger, and delay parameter that can be applied individually to each synth or the drum machine, either individually or as a whole. In addition, each of the editable drum sounds can have a separate effect added to it. Various sound textures are made possible by implementing the two VCO's, three filter types, and more, while notes can be recorded in the sequencer, allowing for further editing. This broad functionality, combined with patching functionality, makes the DS-10 suited to even the most avid sound designers.

Intuitive and Easy Use
The sounds made by each of the two analogue synthesizer emulators are modified using virtual knobs, and users can patch particular parameters for further modification. The user interface is mainly through the DS's touch screen. Notes can be played using a two-octave keyboard, or through an interface that detects the X and Y position of the stylus on the touch pad, simulating a KORG KAOSS Pad.

The Nintendo DS's dual-screen touch panel is used to the fullest to provide a feel and operability that is unsurpassed. Although there are many expert-level features available with synthesizer, the DS-10 can be appreciated by the complete novice as well as the seasoned professional.

Music Without Limits
The KORG DS-10 Synthesizer offers two types of wireless play in Multi-player and Data Exchange modes. Up to eight separate Nintendo DS players can connect via a wireless link to perform as an ensemble. Each DS-10 synthesizer can be played as its own independent instrument, or they can be assigned a part to create a band, allowing for virtually limitless applications.

What's more, users who have created new riffs, tunes, or complete songs can exchange their session data with other KORG DS-10 users. It is even possible to send session data in advance to your friends, so you can all play to the same tune. Not only does the DS-10 bring stylus music to the world for the first time, but this robust connectivity allows for performances and compositions that simply aren't possible on a single Nintendo DS.

The keyboard and KAOSS pad can be played directly with a stylus.

Much more than I expected.5
Wow. I was expecting this to be a lot simpler than it turns out to be. It's almost like a tiny pocket-sized version of Propellerhead's Reason software. Obviously it's very limited by the DS hardware, but if you like messing around with music and music software then you can have hours of fun with this.

You get two monophonic synths with their own sequencer tracks for note/gate/pan/volume, plus a couple more tracks that can be assigned to modulate a long list of parameters and settings. The synths are simple but have most of the things you need to replicate classic analog synth patches, and there are a few relatively novel routing options and modulation sources. Synth patches can be saved and loaded separately from whole compositions.

You also get four "drum" voices which turn out to be four more instances of the same basic synth, though with a few less options and much simpler pattern programming. So in total you get as many as six sounds happening at once, plus a very basic global effects section. The drum sounds each get their own FX though.

A complete song is made of up to 100 strung together instances of 16 different "patterns". Each pattern encompasses up to 16 beats/notes plus the programming for each synth and all its sequencer data. So each pattern can sound and act completely different.

All the programming and composing is pretty much done at the pattern level.

Just about any knob or setting can be twiddled in real-time during playback, and you can interact with it through a two-octave on-screen keyboard or an X/Y "KAOSS" pad in addition to editing events directly in the sequencer view. You can also play the 16 patterns back manually so there quite a few performance opportunities.

The manual is of course very limited and someone could write a book about programming and making music on this thing. It strikes me as a product where the developers had way more fun than their bosses thought they should have. There are lots of well thought out details and some things that the manual can't even begin to discuss in enough depth.

It's not really a "game" of course so much as it's like buying a 1995 vintage synthesizer workstation that came with documentation in Japanese. You need to be inclined towards this sort of thing in order to have fun with it, but it has much more depth than many pocket sized synthesizers and sound modules of the past.

Anyhow, if you have any interest in classic synthesizer hardware or music software, you'll probably love this. Probably not a good gift though for a child who isn't already motivated in that direction. One of the better "adult level" titles for the DS though.

Seriously fun...serious synth5
Just an excellent way to get some great sounding electronic music going. Agree completely with the review that calls this a pocket-sized Reason. While not as comprehensive as Reason, the intuitive interface, excellent sound design possibilities, and ease of use make this great musical fun.

Really a well designed program, and the sound either through headphones or connecting from 1/8" jack out of the DS to a decent amp is fantastic. I've got a home studio with lots of soft synths, and this rivals many of them in terms of sound quality.

A great way to learn basic synthesis too, you can apply the knowledge learned in the synth and sequencer of the DS-10 to many others.

Highly musical, loads of fun. Highly recommend, it's a steal for the price.

DS + Analog Synth Software = Awesome5
I've barely scratched the surface of what this can do, but I'm sitting here with a grin on my face just thinking about how much fun I'm gonna have. If you love analog synths and your Nintendo DS, you will love this. The virtual patching and multi-track step sequencer are exactly what I was expecting. I was anticipating a possible letdown, but this does not disappoint. Make no mistake - This is not a game. It's an analog synth modeler and multi-track step sequencer. But I repeat myself. Did I mention this is awesome?
